Criminal procedure — sentence — rape — death sentence — sentence of imprisonment commensurate with those imposed for murder seldom ? appropriate — rape on appellant's 15 year old daughter — very old convictions — weight to be given.
It is only on very rare occasions indeed, and for the most serious offences, that rape will attract the death sentence. A sentence of imprisonment commensurate with that imposed for a murder will seldom be appropriate e for a rape. It is a well-established practice of the courts not to give weight to convictions which are of many years' standing.
