Criminal law — evidence — several counts — evidence on each count must be examined separately — evidence on one count cannot be used to reinforce evidence on other counts.
Where an accused person is charged on several counts, the evidence on each count must be examined separately in order to arrive at a decision as to whether that count has been proved beyond a reasonable doubt. The evidence on one count cannot be used to reinforce the evidence on other counts. To treat as corroboration of a witness matter that is not corroborative is a misdirection entitling an appeal court to quash a conviction.
